UNESCO commends work of Kazakhstan’s Ethnic Assembly

The best practices of intercultural dialogue among youth and the work of the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan (APK) were presented at UNESCO headquarters in Paris. The event was dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the national institute of interethnic harmony. At the meeting, UNESCO Assistant Director-General Lidia Arthur Brito invited the APK to actively participate in projects. The parties highlighted the shared mission of both organizations – promoting the ideas of peace and development through humanitarian spheres. Special emphasis was placed on cooperation in youth policy. The Assembly Zhastary (Youth) is now preparing to join UNESCO’s global youth community.

«Assembly is going to be very, very important for us because you are already doing excellent work on the ground. And UNESCO serves as the broker to make your programs more visible, to see the best practices that you are deploying in Kazakhstan, especially with youth empowerment. And we will be here to work with you hand-in-hand to show this as a very good example to the other member states and also to other partners of UNESCO,» noted Linda Tinio-Le Douarin, Deputy Chief of the Inclusion, Rights and Intercultural Dialogue Section, UNESCO.

«In many ways, the missions of UNESCO and the APK are similar and aligned. The most important thing is intercultural dialogue, relations, including between people, and the fight against discrimination. We discussed all this with UNESCO representatives, experts, and guests,» said Marat Azilkhanov, Deputy Chairman of the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan.
