An archaeological monument reserve of
Turkistan will be created in Kazakhstan. During today’s plenary session, the
Mazhilis, the Lower House of the Kazakh Parliament, approved the draft law on the
city’s special status in its first reading. The document’s main provisions aim
to preserve the city’s unique heritage and establish it as a historical and
cultural center of the country. As part of this initiative, ancient monuments
located in this sacred place will be restored. New construction standards will
be introduced around the Mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi, prohibiting the
construction of high-rise buildings and structures that are incompatible with
historical monuments. The budget is also expected to partially compensate
craftsmen for their expenses. Furthermore, construction companies involved in
building tourism-related facilities in the region will receive support, with
plans to reimburse some of their costs. Special attention will be given to
increasing the flow of pilgrims. Infrastructure projects will be implemented,
and local tourism service specialists will undergo training as part of this
initiative.
«The development of the draft law was based
on the recognition of Turkistan as the spiritual capital of the Turkic world by
the Organization of Turkic States, as well as the need to preserve the city’s
historical appearance and its cultural heritage sites. The experience of
England, Italy, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, and other countries in conserving
historical monuments was studied during the preparation of the draft law.
Additionally, representatives of the ministry organized a meeting with city
residents, incorporating their input into the core provisions of the draft law,»
noted Kazakh Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Economy Nurlan
Baibazarov.
