Kazakhstan celebrates People’s Unity Day

Kazakhstan celebrated the Day of Unity of the People. Festive events were held across the country, including concerts, artisan fairs, and sports competitions. In honor of May 1 and the 30th anniversary of the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan, the ‘Birlik Zharysy’ mass run took place in the capital.

«The main thing is that this project continues to grow year after year. We see not only residents of Astana taking part, but also an increasing number of participants from across Kazakhstan,» noted Gennady Shipovskikh, a member of the Senate, the Upper House of the Kazakh Parliament.

Creative exhibitions were also held in the capital. One of them, organized by ethnocultural associations, introduced Astana residents and visitors to the rich heritage of national traditions and the cultures of ethnic groups living in harmony under one shanyrak. The exhibition featured decorative and applied artworks, symbols, and attributes reflecting the uniqueness and richness of each culture.

«We cherish our history, culture, and language, and the Germans of Kazakhstan are thriving on the friendly land.»

«The exhibition features our crafts and works, crocheted and sewn by the girls from the community. For example, my grandmother’s tablecloth is 120 years old, can you imagine!»

Concerts by creative ensembles were also held, featuring not only musical, but also dance performances.

«On May 1, as always, we remember the importance of the fact that our strength lies in our unity. Kazakhstan is a multinational country where every ethnic group can proudly represent itself, preserve its traditions, culture, and customs, speak in its own language, and feel comfortable,» said Islam Bairamov, Chairman of the Youth Wing of the Azerbaijani Ethno-Cultural Association «Khazar» in Astana.

The celebration concluded with a grand concert. The audience welcomed the performers with enthusiastic applause.
