A unified Academy
of Journalism may be established in Central Asia, uniting the scientific and
educational potential of the region's countries. The participating states also
plan to set up a creative hub, launch a media award, and produce a joint
television project dedicated to prominent figures from the region. These
initiatives were announced by Kazakh Minister of Culture and Information Aida
Balayeva at the second Central Asian Media Forum in Astana. The forum brought
together over 700 delegates, including journalists, industry experts, heads of
media companies, and representatives of international organizations. Overall,
the Central Asian countries are committed to expanding the production of joint
media content to attract investment, promote tourism, and showcase their shared
historical and cultural heritage.
«The topic of
enhancing cooperation in the information sphere has been repeatedly discussed
at the level of Central Asian leaders. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev proposed tasking
the region’s governments with developing joint media products. Kazakhstan
expressed its support for the creation of a unified Central Asian TV channel
and the production of television projects that highlight the region's
potential, as well as the friendship and unity of its peoples,» Balayeva said.
Along with the TV
channel, the countries of the region may also establish a joint media platform.
This platform would elevate the information cooperation among Central Asian
states to a new level. Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan are already developing such a
partnership. Previously, the two countries signed a cooperation plan that
includes areas such as training sessions and seminars for journalists, as well
as joint efforts to combat disinformation.
«We have signed roadmaps and cooperation plans with Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan. There is still work to be done in this area, and today my colleagues and I discussed the need to establish similar mechanisms of cooperation with the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan. First and foremost, it is important for us to sign the relevant memorandums as well. This is one of the key areas of our dynamic partnership,» said Asadjon Khodjaev, Director of the Uzbek Agency for Information and Mass Communications.
