Astana marked World Theatre Day with
«Lazgi. Dance of Soul and Love,» performed by the National Ballet of
Uzbekistan. Created by renowned German choreographer Raul Raimondo Rebeck, the
production blends Uzbek traditional dance with academic choreography and modern
stage technology. A special musical arrangement combining folk motifs with
electronic sounds enhances the atmosphere. The performance’s unique feature is
its focus on conveying pure emotion rather than specific characters. The main
idea is simple: love and soul are eternal, no matter what time we live in. The
performance has been traveling around the world for several years and has
managed to conquer the audiences of Dubai, Istanbul, Paris, Moscow, Beijing,
and London. The ancient Lazgi dance is included in the UNESCO List of the
Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
«Uzbekistan is renowned for its dance
culture. In each region, we have different styles of dance but Lazgi is
considered the most ancient and the most technical at the same time. It is
saturated with technique, rotations, and intricate tricks performed by women –
something quite rare. It also remains incredibly feminine, visually captivating,
and full of fiery energy,» said Honored Artist of Uzbekistan Nadira Khamrayeva.
«This performance traces the origins of
Lazgi and highlights the timeless nature of national heritage not just in
Uzbekistan, but in every country. The story moves through the past, present,
and future, showing that no matter what changes or innovations come, Lazgi
remains Lazgi. Just as I believe the cultural heritage of Uzbekistan,
Kazakhstan, and beyond will always endure,» shared Elmira Yusupova, leading
soloist of the State Academic Bolshoi Theatre of Uzbekistan.
