Athletes and coaches of Kazakhstan’s national team have been
awarded state honors for their outstanding achievements at the 33rd Summer
Olympic Games in Paris. The corresponding decree was signed by the country’s President
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. 20 athletes have been awarded the orders of Barys,
Parasat and Kurmet. Judoka and the first Olympic champion of Kazakhstan in this
sport Yeldos Smetov was awarded Barys order 1st class (Order of the Leopard),
while Yuri Melnichenko, head coach of the Kazakhstan Greco-Roman wrestling team,
was awarded Barys order 3rd class. Silver medalists Demeu Zhadrayev, Nariman
Kurbanov, Nurbek Oralbay, their coaches, as well as bronze medalist Gusman
Kyrgyzbayev were awarded Parasat order (Order of Nobility). Nazym Kyzaibay, Alexandra
Le, Islam Satpayev, their coaches, as well as the advisor to the President of
the International Judo Federation were awarded Kurmet order (Order of Honour). Kazakhstan’s
national team won seven medals at the main event of the quadrennium, including
one gold, three silver, and three bronze medals.
