Over more than 30 years of cooperation, Kazakhstan and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) have achieved positive results in areas such as the implementation of structural reforms, the development of fiscal policy, and the growth of the country’s financial market. This reflects the significant importance of the collaboration. Today, a meeting between Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov and IMF Deputy Managing Director Bo Li took place in Astana. The parties discussed issues of the financial and economic partnership. Also, the IMF is ready to continue assisting the country in combating climate change. Kazakhstan is already making significant strides toward sustainable growth, with a goal to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060, as noted by Bo Li during a tree planting environmental campaign in one of the parks of the Kazakh capital.
«This tree planting event was indeed a very good symbol of International Monetary Fund support for this country in its green transformation and we want to be a partner in this process to help Kazakhstan to deal with climate change, to mitigate, to adapt, and to have a greener future. The UN COP 29 conference is coming up in this region, it actually will be hosted by one of the countries in this region. And we will be working with countries in this region, including Kazakhstan to prepare for that process especially from the macroeconomic policy perspective, including fiscal policy and financial policy,» said Bo Li, Deputy Managing Director of International Monetary Fund.
