Soyle App: AI-powered online translator presented in Astana

An ideal assistant for those who want to speak Kazakh. The first domestic translator with Artificial Intelligence support was presented in Astana. This multifunctional application can recognize, convert, and synthesize text into speech and vice versa. Moreover, if desired, the neural network can use either a male or female voice for speech synthesis. It took around five years for scientists from the Institute of Smart Systems and Artificial Intelligence (ISSAI) at Nazarbayev University to develop the Soyle App platform. During this period, extensive work was carried out, including data collection, testing, and collaboration with linguists. The result is an innovative product capable of accurately and effectively translating into Kazakh, English, Turkish, and Russian. According to the developers, the application fulfills a strategically important mission for the country—ensuring users’ information security. After the session ends, the assistant immediately forgets all personal data. Looking ahead, the researchers plan to add new features to the translator and scale the project.

«This product will be useful for the Kazakh audience, particularly those interested in learning Kazakh and other supported languages, including Turkish, English, and Russian. It is designed for users who need translation services, speech synthesis, and related features. There are no domestic equivalents, and it also offers audio support. For example, Kazakh speech synthesis and speech-to-speech translation are features not yet available in services like Google Translate or Yandex Translate,» said Ulzhan Bissarinova, data scientist at ISSAI.
