Kazakh students will have the opportunity to earn a degree
from a leading UK research university without leaving the country. A branch of
the prestigious Cardiff University is set to open in Astana, welcoming its
first undergraduate students in September next year. The cooperation agreement
was signed in the capital by the Kazakh Ministry of Science and Higher
Education and a UK delegation, which included Michael German, a member of the
House of Lords. In an interview with the Silk Way TV channel, Lord German
emphasized that research activities will play a significant role in the
branch’s operations. Students will be offered a wide range of disciplines in
high-demand fields, including education, engineering, IT, and biomedicine.
Special attention will also be given to programs in geology, renewable energy,
and the mining industry. Scholarship opportunities are expected to be available
for prospective students.
«There are going to be Kazakh scholarships available; that’s
been part of the discussion. The Kazakh government will support students from
Kazakhstan to study at Cardiff University here in Astana. I think what Cardiff
will do is to look at the needs of this country—obviously, the economic needs,
the scientific needs, with the development of scientific courses, biomedical
science, all these issues that are about the future for Kazakhstan,» Lord
German said.
