A large-scale children’s flash mob Dombyra Uni took place in Almaty. More than 11,000 schoolchildren from 200 schools performed a specially arranged medley on the dombyra, setting a national record to mark Nauryz.
«The main goal of the
event is to promote cultural values and national identity among young people,
as well as to advance the dombyra as a national symbol,» said Saken
Aralbayev, acting head of the Education Department of Almaty city.
«I am very happy to
take part in such an event. I have been playing the dombyra since the age of
three. Our school has a club where we learn to play the instrument. We
performed pieces such as Adai, Balbyrauyn, Erke Sylqym, and Ata tolghauy,» said school student Adel Kulmakhanova.
The program featured works by renowned Kazakh composers, as well as traditional kui songs.
The previous record was set in Taldykorgan, where around
5,000 people simultaneously performed kui songs.
