Turkistan, the spiritual capital of the Turkic world, has
been designated a World Craft City by the World Crafts Council (WCC). Two
events were scheduled to celebrate this recognition: an ethno-festival and an
exhibition of artisans.
«This year, as part of our city’s new status, we are holding
the Ancient Turkic Traditions festival. The event aims to promote our national
values, offering visitors the opportunity to explore the unique aspects of our
traditional games, cuisine, and rich history,» said Yerdaulet Amantaiuly, acting
head of the Open Turkistan tourist information center.
Experts believe that Turkistan’s new status will open up
opportunities to promote Kazakh cultural heritage. The works of local artisans
are also expected to gain greater recognition and demand worldwide.
«With its new status, the tourism sector now has significant
opportunities for development. We also plan to support artisans by providing
subsidies for renting premises, purchasing equipment, and acquiring raw
materials,» said Mukhtar Tolepov, head of the Business and Tourism Support
Department of Turkistan.
The construction of the Crafts Center in Turkistan is
nearing completion and is set to open soon. It is expected to become both a
tourist attraction and a hub for traditional arts, giving the ancient city new
momentum.
