Art without borders - A unique Franco-Kazakh performance was
staged in the capital to mark the 20th anniversary of the Alliance Française in
Astana. The choreographic production, The Raft of the Medusa, was performed by
artists from the instrumental-physical IP Theater and the Kazakh National
Academy of Choreography. The original concept of the play is based on the
famous painting of the same name by French artist Théodore Géricault, part of
the Louvre’s collection.
Guests at the creative evening were also treated to a
collaborative performance titled Oina-Jouer, presented by soloists from
Almaty’s contemporary dance theatre Jolda and the French electronic music group
Judah Warsky. The concept of the
performance is to promote ease and simplicity in communication.
«We incorporated the sound of the shankobyz, our national
instrument, into this work. At one point, while listening to Judah Warsky’s
music combined with the shankobyz, I thought — how amazing it all sounds
together,» said Zhanna Tulendy, head of the Jolda Dance Theatre.
«Our goal was to showcase the beauty of this vast land. This
is how I get to know the history and culture of different countries – through
the language of music and instruments. In this production, we incorporated the
sounds of the shankobyz. I believe our idea turned out quite well, and we
succeeded thanks to our friendly creative collaboration and the absence of any
limitations,» said French musician Judah Warsky.
The Jolda dance group and IP Theatre will take part in one
of Europe’s largest theatre festivals this July in France. A total of 60
talented performers from Kazakhstan have been selected to showcase their skills
and captivate foreign audiences. Organizers note that such cultural events
serve as a golden bridge between countries.
