The preparation of a new seven-volume academic work, «History
of Kazakhstan from Ancient Times to the Present Day», was discussed at the
forum of the National Congress of Historians in Astana. Five research
institutes and over 250 scholars from across the country are currently working
on its creation. As noted by State Counsellor Erlan Karin during his speech,
the new archaeological discoveries and archival documents introduced into
scientific circulation in recent years underscore the need for a more
comprehensive and broader understanding of the nation’s history.
«Kazakhstan is not only the cradle of ancient forms of
nomadic statehood and the heir to once powerful states and empires but also the
centre of the birth and formation of a unique nomadic civilization. Therefore,
the task of domestic historical science is to expand the understanding of our
history in the context of a large civilizational paradigm,» noted Kazakh State
Counsellor Erlan Karin.
The forum participants commended the work on preparing the
multi-volume academic work. The scholars also discussed the need to expand
research on archaeological and historical-cultural monuments, develop archival
studies, and improve textbooks and methods of teaching history. The researchers
particularly emphasized the importance of systematizing new discoveries in
archaeology, ethnography, historical geography, as well as the results of research
in foreign archival and library collections.
