Cardiff University’s branch in Astana is set to welcome its
first students this September. The announcement was made by university
representatives during an open day event. The UK university’s campus will offer
foundation programs in STEM and business, with bachelor’s degree programs
launching the following year. There are plans to expand academic offerings over
time. Initially, the branch is expected to enroll up to 500 students. Looking
ahead, Kazakhstan is poised to become a destination for international students
from across the region. The opening of the UK university’s branch marks an
important step toward Kazakhstan’s strategic goal of becoming an educational
hub in Central Asia.
«We both believe that education is really the basis for
developing our country. We can exchange based on maybe shared values, but also
ideas of a shared similar future. In a world that is connected, and not always connected
in always positive ways, understanding each other is really important — and
education brings that. So, Kazakhstan is a great country for us to be here
first,» said Rudolf Allemann, Vice President and Pro Vice-Chancellor International
at Cardiff University.
«We all know that the universities in the world are ranked
based on their quality of education, on their research impact in the world. So
Cardiff University holds the position of TOP 200 in the world based on Times
Higher Education and QS. And so we are very proud of having this university as
a full-fledged branch here in Kazakhstan, a university that is going to have
its own campus with all its facilities,» said Talgat Zhussipbek, Deputy
Director of the Qualified Centre of Education Public Foundation.
