The names of the recipients of the Bolashak scholarship have
been announced. A total of 217 Kazakh citizens have been awarded. This was the
second competition this year for awarding grants under the international
program. It was held under new rules. Applicants underwent a three-stage
selection process: comprehensive testing, an interview, and selection by the National
Commission. Most recipients will pursue master’s degrees, 13 doctoral degrees,
and 37 will undertake internships at leading universities worldwide. More than
half of the scholarship recipients chose natural and technical sciences.
Meanwhile, more than 77,000 Kazakh citizens have been
awarded state educational grants. Notably, the allocation process maintains the
quotas established by law for children from socially vulnerable groups, as well
as for winners of international Olympiads. University places have also been allocated
to conscript soldiers. Branches of foreign universities opening in the country
received a separate quota.
«The top three fields include pedagogy, with 13,000 grants
allocated for this specialty; information technology and artificial
intelligence, with 11,000 grants; and engineering specialties, with 18,000
grants. Starting this year quotas have been introduced for rare specialties
such as veterinary science, energy, water management, irrigation, and
hydrotechnology,» noted Kazakh Minister of Science and Higher Education Sayasat
Nurbek.
