Kazakhstan has set a historic record in the QS World University Rankings by Subject. The country has strengthened its position and expanded its presence in terms of the number of disciplines and universities represented, reaching a total of 13. The ranking covered more than 21,000 educational programs from 1,900 universities across 100 countries. The highest-ranking university in Central Asia is the Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University. Meanwhile, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University is represented in four sectoral and 23 subject rankings. Next is the Gumilyov Eurasian National University, represented in 15 subject-specific rankings. Other top institutions include the Kazakh National Agrarian Research University and Kurmangazy Kazakh National Conservatory. According to the relevant ministry, Kazakhstan’s education is becoming increasingly competitive, and the country is strengthening its status as a regional educational hub.
«This ranking reflects the
achievement of domestic universities reaching the global level. It also affects
the universities’ standing when collaborating with international partners,
thereby creating more opportunities to receive grants, pursue dual degree
programs abroad, and enhance academic mobility. Third, it impacts the
employment prospects of university graduates. Most importantly, universities
are evolving from purely educational institutions into investment centers,»
noted Olzhas Berkinbayev, Advisor to the Kazakh
Minister of Science and Higher Education.
