Kazakh President participates in scientists’ award ceremony

In today’s era of rapid technological advancement, it is essential to focus closely on systemic research and knowledge. In this regard, the scientific community bears a special responsibility. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev highlighted this during a meeting with domestic scientists. Ahead of Science Workers Day, the Head of State extended his congratulations to them on their professional holiday.

«The government is taking concrete steps to advance science. Three years ago, I instructed the modernization of the Academy of Sciences, and significant progress has been made since then. The Academy has been granted the status of the highest scientific organization. Infrastructure is being updated, and considerable attention is being given to workforce development. It is important to note that the adoption of the Law «On Science and Technological Policy» last year provided a strong impetus to these efforts,» Tokayev said.

In recent years, funding for science in the country has increased by 3.5 times, along with greater support for young specialists. Kazakhstan now has over 25,000 scientists, half of whom are under the age of 40. These figures clearly indicate the emergence of a new generation of domestic researchers. The Head of State outlined priority areas, including the development of nuclear science and technology. Particular attention should be given to nuclear medicine, hydrogen energy, water desalination, and synthetic fuel production. Overall, advancing science requires the joint efforts of the government, businesses, universities, and research centers.

«Over the past five years, research organizations involved in applied sciences have generated over 40 billion tenge in revenue, contributing more than 10 billion tenge in taxes to the budget, with this figure expected to continue growing. Private investments in science have reached 14.5 billion tenge, and over 2,000 new jobs have been created. In this way, our scientists are actively contributing to the country’s economic development. Educational institutions have also begun strengthening their ties with businesses,» Tokayev added.

Today, President Tokayev also presented state awards to a group of scientists. The title of «Kazakhstannyn enbek sinirgen gylym zhane tekhnika kairatkeri» (Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Kazakhstan) was conferred for the first time. Additionally, young researchers were presented with keys to new apartments.
