World Qazaq Kuresi Championship for military personnel kicks off in Astana

Kazakh wrestling is conquering the world. For the first time, Kazakhstan is hosting the World Qazaq Kuresi Championship among military personnel. Over 250 athletes from 30 countries have gathered in Astana, confirming that interest in Kazakh national wrestling is growing and spreading far beyond Central Asia. Kazakhstan will be represented by the strongest wrestlers from the Armed Forces, the State Security Service, and other military units. The competitions will be held in 16 weight categories - eight for men and eight for women.

«Now I think about to be better in the competition. My favorite sport in the world is Qazaq Kuresi, maybe the second sport,» shared a participant from Brazil.

«This will be a great experience for us. We will fight for top spots. We have been preparing for Qazaq kuresi and hope to deliver strong results,» said a participant from Tajikistan.

The organizers hope that the success of the first World Qazaq Kuresi Championship among military personnel will mark a turning point in history. The International Military Sports Council (CISM) is considering including Kazakh national wrestling in the annual program of world military tournaments, as well as in the World Military Games, which will be held in the U.S. in 2027.
