The admission of documents for state scholarships in Kazakhstan ended on July 22. This year, due to numerous requests, the deadline was extended by two more days. Over 78,000 applicants took chances enrolling in universities for free education. A quarter of the documents was submitted via virtual admission offices. For instance, Gumilyov Eurasian National University received a third of over 3,000 applications remotely.
“The graduates of schools located in the country's remote areas submitted applications through a virtual admissions committee. In total, we were able to accept about a thousand online applications,” Umirzhan Kokayev, Admissions Office Secretary at Gumilyov Eurasian National University, said.
This year, about 73,000 grants will be allocated for free education in the country’s higher educational institutions. 60 percent of them will be provided to students of technical professions. That’s probably why there are so many school graduates willing to enroll in this specialization. Pedagogy and medicine majors are also in priority among this year’s applicants.
“School graduates prepared hard for admission to universities, as it can be observed from the subjects they chose for their high school graduation exams. For example, 28 percent of all applicants passed the physical and mathematical complex, whereas 18 percent chose the chemical and biological one. These two combinations are required for the admission to the abovementioned majors,” said Director of the National Testing Center Ruslan Yemelbayev.
The list of those who will receive a state grant and study for free will be announced by August 10. However, school graduates who failed to get the minimum score will be able to try again. They will have the opportunity to resit the high school graduation exam next month. Applications are accepted from July 25 to July 30, but even with excellent results, they will have to study at their own expense.
