All 74 referendum
precincts abroad have completed their work, organized within Kazakhstan’s
diplomatic missions in 59 countries. According to the latest data from the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs, nearly 10,000 of the 12,307 registered voters
participated, resulting in a turnout of over 81 percent. Kazakh citizens in the
United Kingdom, many of them students, also actively fulfilled their civic
duty. Describing the referendum as historic, they emphasized its significance
in deciding the construction of Kazakhstan’s first nuclear power plant. Several
families participated in the vote together at the polling station.
«We decided that it
was necessary to take part in the referendum as a family and made our choice. The
future of our country depends on it, and, of course, we are always ready to
support,» said a voter.
«We are very glad we could
vote, even while abroad. Of course, when we voted, first of all, we thought of
our people’s future and wanted to contribute to the country’s development. I
made my choice,» shared another voter.
Kazakh citizens also
demonstrated high engagement in Brussels, Belgium, as was reported by a correspondent
of the Kazinform news agency. More than 200 voters were registered at the
polling station, including compatriots working in European and international
organizations, diplomats and their families, and students.
«I am a master’s
student at the University of Luxembourg. I came to Belgium from Luxembourg yesterday
specifically to cast my vote in Brussels. For me, this is a global issue. It
was important to me to voice my opinion on this matter,» noted Alima Yeldes, a student
at the University of Luxembourg.
