Turkmen athletes are intensively preparing for the Asian
Winter Games (AWG), set to take place from February 7 to 14 in China. At the
Ashgabat Sports Complex, figure skaters, including two-time national champion
Larisa Vakhitova, refine their choreography during daily rehearsals. Together
with her coach and her mother, who also acts as her mentor, Vakhitova develops
each performance program. They focus meticulously on every detail to ensure
flawless execution in competition. Additionally, Turkmen short-track skaters
will participate in AWG for the first time.
«The girls now have three training sessions a day: morning
workouts, physical training, choreography, stretching, and technique practice
before stepping onto the ice. On the ice, they focus on specific parts of their
program, as well as a well-balanced routine with their coach. Each skater is
provided with individual ice time, and we conduct intensive training to ensure
they perfect all their elements,» said figure skating coach Yana Vakhitova.
«This will be our first time participating. Although this
sport is still relatively new to us, we’ve already proven ourselves. In 2023,
we took part in the Children of Asia Games and also participated in an event in
Korea. Looking ahead, we want our children and athletes to have the opportunity
to compete on such major platforms and represent our country with pride,» said Aikhanum
Gulamaluyeva, senior coach of the Turkmenistan national short track team.
