The first
Asian vocal competition, Silk Way Star, is starting in Astana. The music show
is a joint project of the Kazakh President’s TV and Radio Complex and China
Media Group (CMG). Performers from 12 countries, including Kazakhstan, China,
Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Malaysia, the Kyrgyz Republic, Mongolia,
Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and South Korea, are expected to share
the stage in the capital. Filming will begin on August 20, with the grand final
scheduled for November 22, broadcast live on the Jibek Joly/Silk Way TV channel
and leading channels in participating countries. Over one billion viewers will
enjoy unique duets, performances of national hits, and cross-cultural
collaborations. The jury is also impressive, featuring famous artists and
producers from China and Central Asian countries. The TV show will be broadcast
in Kazakh, Chinese, and English. Overall, the competition aims to strengthen
cultural ties and discover new talents in the global music industry.
«For our channel and for
Kazakhstan as a whole, this is the first large-scale project of its kind. The
format was developed by our specialists, including music producers and editors.
When creating the format, we looked at international examples – Eurovision and Turkvision,
of course. The main difference is that our jury will be present in the studio, evaluating
every performance live. There will be ten episodes, and the jury be able to
assess each artist every time, tracking how much they have revealed themselves
and their talent – from the first episode all the way to the final,» said Yerkezhan Kuntugan, Managing Director of Jibek
Joly/Silk Way.
The winner will be chosen through a combined voting system: 50 percent jury votes and 50 percent audience votes. Kazakhstan will be represented by Batyrkhan Malikov, a well-known pop star known as ALEM.
«It is a great honor for me to raise our flag on the world stage. Thank
you very much for this opportunity. Of course, I will do my utmost in the
project to proudly represent our country and defend our interests,» shared Batyrkhan Malikov,
Silk Way Star contestant from Kazakhstan.
