More than 3,000 schoolgirls perform Kamazhai dance in Astana

A record-breaking mass performance of the Kamazhai traditional folk dance took place in Astana, with 3,000 schoolgirls participating in a grand choreography flashmob. The unique event was held in celebration of Nauryz. According to the organizers, such vibrant and memorable actions aim to revive and showcase the power and beauty of the Kazakh national dance art to the world, while also capturing the spirit of the spring holiday.

«The goal of today’s event was to promote the Kazakh national dance, particularly Kamazhai. You may know that those who danced Kara Zhorga in China set a world record. We decided to stage our own national dance, Kamazhai, which reflects the beauty and grace of our girls. We practiced the movements for a month,» said Rakhat Tauyrzhan, director of the Shashu folk ensemble.

«The preparation was easy and didn’t pose any challenges for us. By participating in the flashmob, we wanted to show the beauty of our Kazakh dance. And therefore, we took part in the action with enthusiasm and joy,» shared flashmob participant Fariza Arbulayeva.

The event also featured a national costume show as part of the fifth day of the Nauryznama decade. Guests had the opportunity to admire the beauty of traditional Kazakh attire.
