Memorial to Kazakh soldiers fallen on frontlines unveiled in Russia

A monument to Kazakh soldiers who died in the Battle of Stalingrad has been unveiled in Russia’s Volgograd region. The memorial stands 4.5 meters tall, with the bronze sculpture itself measuring nearly two meters. The pedestal features bas-reliefs of military awards, along with inscriptions in both Kazakh and Russian. The unveiling was a historic event for the families of Orynbassar Tangatarov and Azamat Kaziyev. Kaziyev had long been listed as missing in action, and it was only 70 years later that his relatives learned he had died in 1942 near the village of Kuzmichi. Over 300,000 Kazakh soldiers fought on the Stalingrad Front, with four of them awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.

«Kazakhstan, as one of the largest and friendliest countries, sent many soldiers to the front. They fought with great courage and made a significant contribution to the Victory,» said Tambov resident Yelena Semicheva.
