Senate ratifies two agreements between Kazakhstan and Qatar

The Senate, the upper house of the Kazakh Parliament, has ratified the agreement with Qatar on cooperation in the criminal cases investigation and providing necessary mutual legal assistance. The support covers the conduct of investigations, criminal prosecutions, and judicial proceedings. Overall, the agreement, signed in February 2024 in Doha, aims to ensure effective investigation of criminal offenses committed on the territory of either country. One of the provisions of the document also covers the conduct of investigative actions necessary to prove the guilt of suspects and defendants. In addition, the Senate approved the ratification on the extradition of wanted persons. As noted by the deputies, the ratification of the agreements will enhance the effectiveness of legal cooperation in combating crime and contribute to strengthening bilateral relations.

«These agreements are made for the future, considering international relations. As mentioned earlier, we maintain very close and mutually beneficial ties with Qatar. There are several significant investment projects underway, which facilitate travel between our countries; Kazakh citizens travel to Qatar, and Qatari citizens visit Kazakhstan. In this context, if a citizen from either country commits a crime, we will have a comprehensive set of legal instruments in place. This will allow us to promptly investigate the crime and quickly hold the guilty party accountable,» said Deputy Prosecutor General of Kazakhstan Asset Chindaliyev.
