Kazakhstan, Russia to expand energy cooperation

The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) is underway, bringing together world leaders, top executives, and international media representatives. Russian President Vladimir Putin held a meeting with media delegates as part of the forum’s agenda. Askar Jaldinov, Deputy Director of the Kazakh President’s TV and Radio Complex, asked a question about the prospects for developing trade and economic relations between the two countries. In response, Putin emphasized that energy is a key area of bilateral cooperation. He noted that Russia intends to expand its partnership with Kazakhstan in the gas sector, including joint efforts to access third-country markets.

«We have a special relationship with Kazakhstan - that is obvious and well understood by all. These are allied relations in the truest sense of the word. Our shared history, our time as part of a single state, and the vast number of interpersonal and humanitarian ties between our peoples hold great significance. Kazakhstan is also a member of the CSTO, our defense alliance, as well as of our economic union. We cooperate with Kazakhstan within the SCO and other international organizations as well,» Putin said.
