CSTO needs to become part of UN peacekeeping missions, Tokayev says

At at the anniversary session of the Collective Security Council Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev stated that it is necessary to make CSTO part of the United Nations peacekeeping missions. According to the Head of State, this move will strengthen the legal personality of the CSTO. It will ensure the participation of the organization in international operations on peacekeeping. The Head of State paid particular attention to countering international terrorism and extremism, illegal drug and gun trafficking, illegal immigration, and the situation in Afghanistan.

“The unstable situation in this country, as well as the irreducible activity of armed groups on the territory of Afghanistan is still a threat to the security and stability of our states. I believe that the CSTO must take all potential threats into account and pay even more attention to the security of the southern borders of Central Asia,” the president said.

At the meeting, the leaders of CSTO member states adopted the anniversary Statement of the Collective Security Council.
