Romanian choir performs Kazakh songs at Astana Opera

The National Chamber Choir of Romania performed songs in Kazakh at the Astana Opera Theatre. The ensemble made its Kazakhstan debut with a concert program titled Madrigal: The Silk Road. In it, the Romanian performers sought to reflect the cultural richness of the ancient trade route. A highlight of the evening was a medley of traditional Kazakh songs, including Iapurai and Agugai, delivered with impressive vocal artistry. The arrangement was specially created by Astana Opera conductor and People’s Artist of Kazakhstan, Abzal Mukhitdin.

«A segment featuring Kazakh choral works was also performed. I found it truly remarkable, as the Romanian choir flawlessly delivered the folk song Iapurai and a medley of Kazakh songs—without the slightest accent, with precision, and at an exceptionally high professional level. It was, without a doubt, something truly outstanding,» Mukhitdin said.
