The Kazakh film Kazhymukan has emerged as the big winner at
a prestigious international film festival in Italy. The movie received four
major awards, winning in the categories of Best Film, Best Actor, Best
Director, and Best Screenplay. Film director Kanagat Mustafin began working on
the screenplay back in 2012, though filming didn’t start until eight years
later. The film was released in theaters last year. It tells the story of the
legendary figure Kazhymukan Munaitpasov, the first Kazakh to become a world
champion in French wrestling. His athletic career was marked by numerous
victories in both international and Soviet competitions. He won around 50
medals, becoming a national hero and a symbol of strength, courage, and pride
for Kazakhstan.
