Presidents of Kazakhstan, Israel hold talks

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and President Isaac Herzog of Israel, who arrived in the country on an official visit, held talks at the Akorda residence. The Head of State emphasized that the two countries have maintained close and friendly relations since 1992. Over this period, significant results have been achieved in political, economic, and investment cooperation. For his part, the President of Israel noted that it was a great honor for him to be at the Akorda residence, following in the footsteps of his father, Chaim Herzog, who had visited Kazakhstan in 1993. He also highlighted the strong potential for cooperation between the two sides, particularly in the field of high technologies. The Presidents also discussed Kazakhstan’s decision to join the Abraham Accords. The Head of State noted that this step symbolizes Kazakhstan’s readiness to contribute to stabilizing relations between Middle Eastern countries and Israel, as well as to boosting trade and economic ties.

«Kazakhstan as far as you know is committed to the decision which was made earlier and we believe that an official ceremony of joining to the Abraham Accords may happen, may take place this year in Astana some time later. And also one thing I would like to mention, it’s about first of all our interests in developing or enhancing contacts on such an important matter like artificial intelligence and digitalization. This year in Kazakhstan was proclaimed as the Year of Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence. I am focusing on this particular matter,» President Tokayev noted.

The President of Israel also welcomed Kazakhstan’s decision to join the Abraham Accords and to participate in the work of the Board of Peace. Isaac Herzog also emphasized the steady and progressive development of cooperation between Kazakhstan and Israel.

«I would like to put a focus on how we can double and triple and much more the volume of business and trade between our nations. You know, there are practical steps that can enhance them dramatically. I think, direct flights can have a huge impact on business and trade. We are not far away from completing a double taxation treaty,» President Isaac Herzog of Israel said.

As a result of the negotiations, the parties agreed to maintain regular political dialogue and further elevate relations to a qualitatively new level.
