Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev received
Financial Monitoring Agency Chairman Zhanat Elimanov and was briefed on the
agency’s key performance results and priorities for the upcoming period.
According to Elimanov, monitoring of budget spending identified risks of
inefficient use of livestock subsidies totaling 30 billion tenge. In addition,
17 financial pyramid schemes were dismantled, and the activities of a group
conducting mass phishing SMS campaigns impersonating banks and telecom
operators were uncovered. Nearly 4,000 fraudulent websites and three shadow
cryptocurrency exchanges were shut down. Following the meeting, the Head of
State issued a series of instructions on the agency’s key areas of work.
