New Kazakh ministry to oversee AI and digital technology development

Kazakhstan has established a new Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development, based on the former Ministry of Digital Development. The latter’s innovation-related functions and powers have been transferred to the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. Both agencies have become successors of the dissolved ministry. In an interview with our TV channel, the head of the new ministry, Zhaslan Madiyev, outlined its initial areas of focus.

«We will be concentrating on those areas developing the institutional framework, creating the necessary infrastructure, as well as human capital development. We are building up the GPU supercomputer clusters because infrastructure is a very important part in AI products development and it helps us to train the models, to have inference processes and to make fine-tuning of the AI agents for the help of productivity in the public sector for example. Also, large language models, Kazakh LLM, are also an important part from a digital sovereignty perspective,» Madiyev said.
