Kazakh MPs took part in a meeting of the CSTO Parliamentary
Assembly Council held in the capital of the Kyrgyz Republic. The parties
discussed measures to combat drug and cybercrime. The head of the Kazakh
delegation, Mazhilis Speaker Yerlan Koshanov, drew attention to the growth of
illicit drug trafficking and online fraud in the Organization’s member states.
He called for joint efforts to establish a legislative barrier against these
global challenges.
«Today, our countries are increasingly facing transnational
threats. We believe that the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly can contribute to the
creation of a common legal space in the field of countering synthetic drugs and
cybercrime. Kazakh MPs are ready to actively engage in this work. At the
instruction of President Kassym-Jomart Kemelevich Tokayev, criminal liability
for drug-related offenses has been significantly toughened at the legislative
level. By the end of the current parliamentary session, we also plan to
legislatively tighten liability for online fraud,» noted Yerlan Koshanov,
Chairman of the Mazhilis, the Lower House of the Kazakh Parliament.
