11 monuments in Kazakhstan could be added to the UNESCO
World Heritage List in 2026. To support this, the Ministry of Culture and
Information has submitted two nomination dossiers to the Organization. The
first is an individual nomination — «Rocky Mosques of Mangystau Peninsula» —
and the second is a transnational nomination — «Silk Roads: Fergana–Syrdarya
Corridor» — prepared in collaboration with the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, and
Uzbekistan. This was announced by Aida Balayeva, Minister of Culture and
Information. She also noted that documents for two additional nominations —
«Salburyn» and the epic «Alpamys Batyr» — have been submitted for UNESCO’s
consideration. To preserve and promote the country’s historical and cultural
heritage, the Minister proposed developing a special comprehensive plan.
«The first focus is a comprehensive approach to Kazakhstan’s
monuments protected by UNESCO, in accordance with the principles of the
Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural
Heritage. The second focus is the preservation and support of intangible or «living»
cultural heritage, in line with the principles of the UNESCO Convention. The
third focus is the preservation, accessibility, and recognition of documentary
heritage under UNESCO’s Memory of the World Programme,» Balayeva said.
