A comic book for children, «Syrym Batyr,» has been published
in Kazakhstan. It tells about the famous historical figure Syrym Datov, his
exploits and defense of his homeland. The story follows a father and son on a
journey that leads them to the Syrym Hill memorial complex. There, the father
narrates the tale of the sacred site where the batyr successfully defended his
homeland against a larger enemy force. The comic book was released in a print
run of 2,000 copies and includes interactive features accessible via a QR code.
They allow readers to watch a video adaptation of the comic and solve tasks and
crosswords.
«The aim of the project was to inspire children to read
through an engaging format. We chose the comics genre. The text is written in
poetic form to make it memorable for young readers. As for the depictions of
historical figures, we tried to make them as close to their original
appearances as possible. The storyline is based entirely on real historical
events – nothing fictional, it reflects the history of the Kazakh people,» said
the author of the comic book Zhantas Safullin.
