Kazakhstan to build waste-to-energy plants

Next year, Kazakhstan will begin constructing waste-to-energy plants in Astana, Almaty, and Shymkent. This instruction was given by Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov to the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources and local administrations. Investment agreements with Chinese investors have already been signed, with a total value of 300 billion tenge. Overall, the country has developed a five-year waste management concept. As part of this initiative, a unified information platform will be created to collect data on all waste generators and waste flows. The system will be enhanced by artificial intelligence: neural networks will help analyze large datasets, reduce risks, and accurately plan processing capacities.

«The implementation of the Concept for Managing All Types of Waste will help establish a clear system of monitoring and forecasting to ensure environmental and sanitary-epidemiological safety. It will also stimulate the development of a waste management industry focused on recycling and reuse. This approach aligns with President Tokayev’s Taza Kazakhstan initiative, which aims to foster an environmental culture of responsible stewardship of nature,» Bektenov noted.
