It was with this legendary phrase that humanity’s
conquest of space began. 65 years ago, a launch vehicle carrying Yuri Gagarin
on board lifted off from the Baikonur Cosmodrome. An exhibition dedicated to
this anniversary has been opened at the Presidential Center in Astana. The
display features around 30 unique museum exhibits and more than 60 archival
materials. They allow visitors to trace humanity’s first steps in exploring the
Universe to the development of Kazakhstan’s modern space industry. Among the
exhibits are personal items belonging to Kazakh cosmonauts. For example, a glove
worn by Toktar Aubakirov is on display; Talgat Mussabayev took a capsule
containing soil from Baikonur with him on his flight; and Kazakhstan’s national
flag traveled to the ISS with Aidyn Aimbetov. The exhibition also includes
books on the development of the space sector in Kazakhstan, as well as research
projects carried out by Kazakh cosmonauts beyond Earth.
«The exhibition aims to trace and promote the evolution and continuity of the space sector - from the first human spaceflight to the present day - and, as part of its innovative development, to present materials to the wider public about the first space tourist who flew into space from Kazakhstan,» noted Zhibek Zhuzenova, Head of the Exhibition and Exposition Department, Presidential Center, President’s Affairs Administration of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
