The C5+1 summit will take place in
Washington on November 6. The extensive agenda for the
meeting between the leaders of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan,
Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and the United States includes the development of
trade, economic, and humanitarian cooperation, as well as collaboration in
energy, industry, and digitalization. The parties plan to define concrete steps
to strengthen their mutually beneficial partnership. Experts note that
an event of this scale reflects the new geopolitical realities of Eurasia and
the growing interest of major powers in the region. Central Asia holds
strategic importance for the U.S. due to its
location and role in developing new transport corridors. Kazakhstan, in
particular, is seen as a key transit hub for Eurasia and a reliable partner in
the mining and processing of rare earth metals.
«In this regard, the U.S. seeks to diversify its supplies of critical minerals, and Kazakhstan, in this context, has the potential to provide 19 of the 50 most essential minerals, including germanium, gallium, tungsten, cobalt, and others. Kazakhstan is well-positioned to participate in building diversified and sustainable supply chains for critical minerals. This has a cumulative effect, leading to investment and technology transfer,» noted Ali Mukhambet, Lead Expert at the Department of European and American Studies, Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of Kazakhstan.
The C5+1
format has been in place since 2015. The first presidential-level summit was
held two years ago in New York. The current meeting in Washington marks the 10th anniversary of
the dialogue and, according to experts, will reaffirm Washington’s growing attention to
Central Asia’s potential.
«More than ten ministerial meetings have been held, providing a strong impetus for the further development of this format. Numerous partners from Central Asia and the U.S. have been working on issues such as industrial production, hydrogen technology development, clean energy, and more. I consider this to be one of the breakthrough projects within our format,» said Manarbek Kabaziyev, Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Foreign Policy Research Institute under the Kazakh Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The U.S.
Department of State will host a Business Conference in honor of C5+1
10th Anniversary. The event will bring together ministers, senators, and
special representatives. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau will lead
a plenary panel session with the participation of executives of leading
companies. Senior officials and business leaders from the C5+1 countries will
summarize the results of ten years of cooperation and discuss ways to further
strengthen economic and cultural ties between the countries of
Central Asia and the United States.
