Kazakhstan’s reforms discussed in European Parliament

Kazakhstan and the European Union continue to strengthen their strategic partnership. During the roundtable in Brussels, members of three political groups in the European Parliament, as well as members of the Delegation for relations with Central Asia, discussed prospects for the further development of bilateral cooperation. Participants highlighted Kazakhstan’s economic progress and the ongoing reforms aimed at political modernization, improving the public administration system, and strengthening democratic institutions. According to European experts, the course pursued by Kazakhstan is making the country a more attractive and predictable partner for the EU, while its experience is of interest not only to Central Asia but also to Europe itself.

«Its a very inspiring example for Europe. We will need it because here in Europe we are very divided. So its a very strong political and geopolitical signal actually that the Kazakh government is giving to us also. Its a historic time, you know, this new geopolitical balance for Kazakhstan to position in Central Asia, but also for Europe to know better the country and the opportunities that we can develop togethersaid Michel A de Kemmeter, Adjunct professor at the Brussels school of governance.

Particular attention was given to transport connectivity, including the development of the Middle Corridor, the expansion of direct air connections between Kazakhstan and Europe, and progress in negotiations on visa facilitation between Kazakhstan and the EU.

«I am closely following developments and reforms underway in your country. In my view, Kazakhstan is playing an increasingly important role. This is due to its geographical location between Russia and China, as well as its rich deposits of rare earth minerals. I believe that trade between Kazakhstan, France and the European Union should be expanded. That is why I am heresaid MEP Pierre Pimpie.
