A large-scale platform for public dialogue, the People's Council, is set to strengthen the role of the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan. The new state institution will function as a consultative platform uniting ethnic groups, regions, and public organizations. A key distinction is that it will have the right to initiate legislation. This mandate will allow Council members to propose new regulations, thereby directly participating in shaping public policy. Experts note that such changes could make the Council’s work more systematic and practice-oriented. This is expected to strengthen interethnic cohesion and enhance the effectiveness of ethnocultural associations through more direct communication with government agencies and the ability to influence decisions not only through dialogue but also through specific initiatives.
«We are talking about a new institutional stage in strengthening interethnic relations in Kazakhstan. The principle of unity in diversity has been and remains unshakable for the state and for Kazakh society as a whole,» noted Timur Jumurbayev, Chairman of the «Assembly of Youth» Republican Public Organization.
«Simply put, the work of the Assembly and the National Kurultai is moving to a new level. This is not about replacing existing institutions, but about expanding their capabilities. The structures that previously worked separately with ethnic groups and public opinion are being brought together into a single people’s institution. Most importantly, it will work for the future of our country,» said Alisher Satvaldiyev, a member of the Senate, the Upper House of the Kazakh Parliament.
