The Francophonie Spring Festival has kicked
off in Kazakhstan. Now in its 16th year, the festival will
run until April 15. The program includes screenings of French films, concerts,
conferences, literary meetings, exhibitions, and various contests. Events will take
place in several cities, including Astana, Almaty, Shymkent, Atyrau, Karagandy, Oskemen, and Kostanai. The festival is
organized with the participation of the embassies of France, Belgium, Canada,
Lithuania, Morocco, Romania, Serbia, Armenia, and Switzerland. Today, the
Francophonie includes around 90 countries, promoting the French language and
supporting cultural diversity. In Kazakhstan, approximately 11,000 students
currently study French, and the number of learners continues to grow each year.
French is now taught in several schools across the country. In addition, two
French educational institutions are planned to open in Astana and Almaty under
agreements between the heads of the two states.
«Kazakhstan is a vast country, and we see strong interest in the Francophone world. That is why we aim to bring our events to different cities each year. This year, we are holding activities in seven cities across Kazakhstan, and we hope to expand to even more cities next year. We are also very pleased that, together with nine embassies, we were able to join forces to broaden the program,» said French Ambassador to Kazakhstan Sylvain Guiaugué.
«This is the first
time for me to actually take part in francophone, here in Kazakhstan, in
Astana. Back home in Serbia,
we have very active month of francophone. Here, this is the first time that we
are invited. So, I’m really hopeful that we are going to actually establish a good tradition and that every
next year we’ll be having more activities and more events within monde
francophone,» noted Serbian
Ambassador to Kazakhstan Vladimir Jovičić.
