Kazakhstan launches country’s longest road tunnel

Kazakhstan has launched the longest road tunnel at the Shakpak Baba pass in the Turkistan region. The cost of the project amounted to more than 10 billion tenge. The two-lane tunnel is 840 meters long and eight meters high, with a capacity of 20,000 vehicles per day, according to specialists. It features a special drainage system for managing mountain water runoff and dispatch points for controlling lighting and ventilation systems to ensure safety. Before entering the tunnel, there is a repair station, gas stations, and even helicopter landing sites and shopping areas.

«Surveillance cameras and ventilation system have been installed in the tunnel. There is also a fire protection system in case of emergency. Everything has been done in accordance with modern safety requirements. The tunnel is Kazakhstan's section of the Western Europe-Western China international transport corridor and is expected to improve the region's year-round transport accessibility. Experts note that its launch will give impetus to Kazakhstan's transit potential
