President
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev began his official visit to the Kyrgyz Republic with a tour of the Ata-Beyit
National Historical and Memorial Complex, built in memory of victims of
repression. He also honored the legacy of outstanding Kyrgyz writer
Chingiz Aitmatov.
As part of the official visit, Tokayev held talks with
President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov. The parties discussed issues of
strengthening cooperation in the transport and transit, energy, water,
agricultural, and digitization sectors. Then they chaired the seventh meeting
of the Supreme Interstate Council of Kazakhstan and the Kyrgyz Republic,
focusing on the great potential of trade. With
current turnover reaching about $2 billion, the next target was set at $3
billion, supported by the signing of a cooperation roadmap.
«Last year, we signed a historic Treaty on Deepening
and Expanding Allied Relations. Today, we are adopting a Comprehensive
Cooperation Plan. I am confident that these important steps will give new
impetus to the development of Kazakh-Kyrgyz relations. The governments of both
countries should be guided by the goals and objectives outlined in this plan,» Tokayev said.
Following
the talks, the leaders of Kazakhstan and the Kyrgyz Republic
spoke at a press conference,
announcing that an Industrial Trade and Logistics
Complex will be launched on the Kazakh-Kyrgyz border next year to bolster trade.
Given that the
agro-industrial sector already accounts for 25% of trade, the two governments will
prepare a two-year roadmap
to expand cooperation in this sector.
«Particular attention was paid to increasing the
capacity of the Kazakh-Kyrgyz border, as well as the issue of cargo
transportation. Recently, a number of large-scale events have been held in this
direction. Work is currently underway to modernize eight border checkpoints.
This work will be fully completed in the next two years. The governments of
both countries have been instructed to keep this issue under special control.
All this will contribute to increasing the volume of mutual trade,» Tokayev added.
«We discussed issues of increasing the volume and
expanding the range of mutual trade, as well as creating favorable conditions
for business,» Japarov
noted.
The
parties agreed to hold the next meeting of the Interregional Forum in the near
future. Tokayev awarded his Kyrgyz counterpart with the Altyn Qyran Order, Kazakhstan’s
highest state honor. The
Heads of State then
took part in the opening ceremony of the Golden Bridge of Friendship monument
in Bishkek, dedicated
to outstanding writers of the two nations – Mukhtar Auezov and Chingiz Aitmatov. The Presidents also visited
school-gymnasium No. 33 named after Kemel Tokayev. During World War II, the
Frunze military infantry school was located there, from where writer Kemel
Tokayev was sent to the front. The initiative to name the school in his honor
was proposed by President Japarov in May.
