President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has signed a decree on measures to introduce artificial intelligence into the secondary education system. According to the document, the Government must approve a comprehensive plan through 2029 by July 1. The plan is expected to include the creation of a personalized learning mechanism, digital infrastructure, training of teaching staff, and protection of students’ personal data. By August 1, schools participating in the pilot project must be equipped with the necessary technology and stable high-speed internet. The decree also provides for the use of recommendations aimed at reducing the gap in the quality of education between urban and rural schools. These recommendations come from a member of the AI Development Council, a non-staff advisor to the Head of State, and CEO of Sinovation Ventures and 01.AI Kai-Fu Lee. By September 1, standards for the use of AI in the country’s secondary education system will be approved.
«And also I applauded all
the education efforts in the country, in both higher ed as well as K-12. And I
made some suggestions on other things that could be done. And if they can be
implemented, I’ll
be coming over to work on it myself,» noted Kai-Fu Lee, CEO of Sinovation Ventures and
01.AI.
