Kazakhstan, Hungary strengthen strategic partnership

As part of his state visit to Hungary, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with President Tamás Sulyok. The meeting took place in the format of a working lunch, during which the two leaders discussed the prospects for Kazakh-Hungarian strategic partnership. The Head of State emphasized that over three decades of diplomatic relations between the brotherly nations, a trustful political dialogue, strong economic cooperation, and close cultural and humanitarian ties have been established. The sides intend to deepen their cooperation, particularly in trade and investment. According to President Tokayev, there is significant potential in projects related to energy, transport, logistics, metallurgy, and agriculture. For his part, the President of Hungary emphasized that the two countries share both common historical roots and aspirations for the future.

President Tokayev held another important meeting with the Speaker of the National Assembly László Kövér. The Head of State emphasized the special role of interparliamentary cooperation between the two countries and welcomed the strengthening of ties between the legislative bodies of Kazakhstan and Hungary. He also highlighted the importance of partnership in the field of education and inter-university exchanges. The interlocutors exchanged views on the international situation and toured the Hungarian Parliament building.

The key aspects of bilateral cooperation were discussed by the Kazakh President and Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. During the talks, the Head of State emphasized that Hungary is a reliable strategic partner of Kazakhstan in the European Union. The main goal of the current visit is to give a new impetus to the relationship. The parties reached several important agreements, including the creation of the Kazakhstan-Hungary Investment Fund. In total, six documents were signed.

«The mutual trade turnover between our countries is steadily increasing. Last year, this figure grew by nine percent compared to the previous year. Our goal is to bring it to $1 billion. We are ready to supply Hungary with 95 types of goods worth a total of $700 million,» President Tokayev noted.

The negotiations also covered the possibilities for developing one of the most important trade routes – the Trans-Caspian International Transport Corridor.

«A Memorandum of Cooperation was signed today between KTZ Express, L.A.C. Holding, and Xi’an Free Trade Port Construction and Operation. This document will strengthen trade and transport ties between our countries and serve as another step toward expanding economic relations in the region,»  the Head of State added.

President Tokayev also emphasized the development of cooperation between the two countries within international structures. He specifically highlighted the active participation of the Prime Minister of Hungary in the work of the Organization of Turkic States and his significant contribution to the expansion of Turkic integration. For his part, Viktor Orbán emphasized the importance of President Tokayev's visit for expanding the strategic partnership between the two countries. Summarizing the results of Kazakh President’s visit to Hungary, both parties noted the new opportunities for strengthening cooperation.
