Kazakhstan holds events to mark 180th anniversary of Abai

All regions of Kazakhstan are celebrating the 180th anniversary of Abai on a grand scale. In Almaty, new works dedicated to the Kazakh poet and educator were presented. These include the scholarly study Fundamentals of Abai’s Teachings on the Perfect Man and the poetry collection In Harmony with the Great Abai. The latter features poems by schoolchildren, students, and young poets inspired by the works of the founder of Kazakh written literature.

In Semei, a sports event was launched to mark the 180th anniversary of Abai Kunanbaiuly. The ultramarathon spans 180 kilometres from the city to the Karauyltobe highland, featuring over 100 professional athletes and amateurs from across Kazakhstan and abroad.

«I came from the Kostanai region. This is already my third race dedicated to Abai’s anniversaries. Previously, I also took part in marathons honoring the Kazakh poet, running distances of up to 80 kilometers. Congratulations to everyone on this special occasion! Abai’s anniversary is our shared heritage!» shared participant Mendibai Alimgazin.

In the capital, as part of the festive events dedicated to the philosopher’s anniversary, members of the Zhasyl El youth labor group lined up to form the symbolic inscription ABAI 180.

Poetry readings were also held in Abai Park, where enthusiasts of the poet’s work recited their favorite lines from his poems.
