China Tourism Year kicks off in Kazakhstan

The official launch of the China Tourism Year in Kazakhstan took place in Astana, marked by a themed exhibition and a tourism forum. It was announced that four new flight routes between the two countries will be introduced by the end of this year. Over the past five years, the number of Chinese travelers visiting Kazakhstan has increased ninefold, reaching 655,000 last year. To boost both the quantity and quality of travel to the country, a series of events is planned.

«A variety of tourism-themed days and events highlighting different types of tourism will be held across multiple cities. Plans also include B2B meetings between travel companies and the launch of new flight routes. Currently, around 50 flights are already in operation. By the end of the year, new routes are expected to launch from Chengdu to Almaty, Shanghai to Almaty, Shanghai to Shymkent, and Xi’an to Shymkent,» said Nurbol Baizhanov, head of department at the Committee of the Kazakh Ministry of Tourism and Sports.

As part of the China Tourism Year in Kazakhstan, the implementation of the Welcome Chinese program has been proposed. This initiative will help hotels, tourism companies, and other service providers better cater to the needs of Chinese visitors. Plans are also underway to strengthen academic mobility between tourism universities in both countries, fostering the exchange of knowledge and experience. Additionally, a unique cross-border marathon is being planned, bringing together tourism, sports, and culture.

«A meeting was held with a major company whose investment portfolio exceeds $5 billion - a truly impressive figure. We are currently presenting a range of projects aimed at capturing the interest of potential partners,» said Alisher Tursyn, Director of the Project Facilitation Department at Kazakh Tourism National Company.
