Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov met with Chinese Premier Li Qiang during a working visit to China. The two sides discussed cooperation in key economic sectors, with a particular focus on transport and logistics, where Kazakhstan plays a central role in overland freight routes between China and Europe. More than 85% of total cargo flows pass through Kazakhstan’s territory. Rail transport volumes between the two countries rose by 11% last year.
«Last year, bilateral trade exceeded $48 billion, and we are steadily progressing toward our ambitious goal of doubling trade. China is among the five largest investors in Kazakhstan’s economy, with total investments of around $30 billion. Chinese investment reached $2.8 billion last year, a record high in the history of bilateral relations,» Bektenov said.
Prime Minister Bektenov also participated in a session dedicated to the Belt and
Road Initiative in Dalian. Participants discussed the development of trade
routes, the resilience of supply chains, digital infrastructure, and prospects
for the initiative through 2040. Kazakhstan is steadily strengthening its
transit potential. Over the past seven years, more than $35 billion has been
invested in developing transport and logistics infrastructure. Major projects
include the container hub in Aktau, the dry port in Xi’an, and the Dostyk-Moiynty
railway line.
