Kazakhstan, ADB reach agreement on water sector investment

The Kazakh Ministry of Water Resources and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) are strengthening cooperation in the water sector. The parties signed a memorandum that paves the way for attracting investment and implementing priority projects. Furthermore, the ministry and the financial institution agreed to develop specialist training, exchange experience, and provide technical support. Special centers will be established to coordinate this work and monitor project progress. Kazakhstan's participation in the Glaciers to Farms program was also discussed. It aims to modernize irrigation networks and improve the resilience of water supplies amid climate change. Overall, the signed document will accelerate the industry’s modernization and enhance international partnerships.

«We have adopted a concept for developing a water resources management system through 2030, identifying key indicators to be achieved by that date. A comprehensive program for the development of the water sector through 2028 has also been approved, covering all activities related to repairs, construction, and the restoration of hydraulic structures and irrigation networks. I hope our cooperation with the Asian Development Bank will be very fruitful and mutually beneficial for both sides said Kazakh Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Nurzhan Nurzhigitov.
