As part of his working trip to the Aktobe region,
Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov reviewed the implementation of President
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s state-of-the-nation address. Particularly, he
familiarized himself with the solution of infrastructure issues in the energy
sector through a number of facilities in the Badamsha village. Bektenov was
briefed on the operation of the Badamsha and Badamsha-2 wind power plants which
received 69 billion tenge of private investments. Notably, these turbines are currently
the largest in Kazakhstan, generating nearly 195 gigawatt hours of
electricity annually. Bektenov emphasized that Kazakhstan’s share of green
energy is six percent, while coal plants supplying 70 percent of the country’s
energy are mostly deteriorated. For energy stability, Kazakhstan needs an
alternative source. If supported by the public in the referendum on construction of
a nuclear power plant, the development of nuclear energy would provide the
country with stable and clean energy.
